Payroll Command Center

The Payroll command center enables you to control all the payroll information and activities in your business. This includes creating and editing payroll categories, entering timesheets, paying your employees, printing paychecks, and paying your payroll liabilities. You can also prepare your end of year payroll forms and summaries.

As with any command center, you can also click To Do List to display business tasks that affect your company on a regular basis, click Find Transactions to view summary information about transactions, click Reports to print or view reports, and click Analysis to analyze aspects of your business.

Payroll command center tasks

Payroll Categories

Click Payroll Categories to open the Payroll Category List window, where you can create, edit and delete payroll categories for wages, deductionsand employer expenses.

Enter Timesheet

If you use timesheets for time billing or payroll (or both), you can enter your employees’ hours in the Enter Timesheet window. Timesheets can be used to record the hours worked by your employees. You can link these hours to specific activities.

Process Payroll

Click Process Payroll to open the Process Payroll Assistant. The Assistant guides you through your payroll processing.

Pay Liabilities

Click Pay Liabilities to open the Pay Liabilities window, where you can record payments of payroll liabilities for a selected period.

Prepare Electronic Payments

The Electronic Payments option is available only if you subscribe to the Business Services for Direct Deposit and Vendor Payments.

Click Prepare Electronic Payments to open the Prepare Electronic Payments window, where you can create a bank payment file to pay employees and vendors electronically.

Print Paychecks

Click Print Paychecks to open the Review Checks Before Printing window, where you can print checks to pay employees and vendors.

Print/Email Pay Stubs

Click Print/Email Pay Stubs to open the Review Pay Stubs Before Delivery window, where you can print and email pay stubs for your employees.

Prepare Payroll Tax Forms (OS9: Print W-2s and W-3)

Click Prepare Payroll Tax Forms to open the Select Payroll Tax Forms window, where you can select a new or saved version of the W-2 or W-3 form for preparation and printing.

Transaction Journal

Click Transaction Journal to open the Transaction Journal window, where you can view information about all transactions entered in the your company file, for all journals. Click the zoom arrow next to a transaction to view it in the original transaction window.

Other tasks in the Payroll command center

To Do List

Click to open the To Do List window, where you can view a list of tasks that need to be performed regularly, such as recording recurring transactions. You can also use the To Do List to automatically perform tasks, such as creating a purchase when an item’s quantity becomes low.

The To Do List window automatically displays tasks related to the current command center. If you want to display a different task in the To Do List window, click and hold down the mouse button and select the required task from the list that appears.

Find Transactions

Click to open the Find Transactions window, where you can view summary information about accounts, invoices, bills, cards, items, payroll and jobs. You can click a zoom arrow in this window to display the original transaction details.

The Find Transactions window automatically displays the transaction type related to the current command center. If you want to display a different type of transaction, click and hold down the mouse button and select the required transaction type from the list that appears.

Reports

Click to open the Index to Reports window, where you can prepare, print and customize your reports or export them to Microsoft Excel using the OfficeLink feature.

The Index To Reports window automatically displays reports related to the current command center. If you want to display a different type of report, click and hold down the mouse button and select the required report type from the list that appears.

Analysis

Click to open windows that allow you to analyze the key aspects of your business. For example, you can analyze sales and profitability trends, estimate short-term cash needs, see who owes you money and chart your progress on jobs. Many Analyze windows display your company's information in table or graph form.

When you click Analysis, a window appears displaying an analysis of information related to the current command center. If you want to display a different type of analysis, click and hold down the mouse button and select the required analysis from the list that appears.

Task Drawer

Click the task button on the bottom right of the command center or press SHIFT+COMMAND+T to display the Task Drawer list. You can add windows you use frequently to this list. Any window that can be opened from the command center or from a menu can be added to the Task Drawer list.

To add a window to the Task Drawer list, open the window you want to add, then go to the Window menu and select Add to Task Drawer.
