Editing, deleting and inactivating locations for inventoried items

When you first start using MYOB Premier Accounting, one location is defined automatically. This location is named Primary Location; the location ID is Location1. All of your inventoried items will be "stored" in this location automatically.

If you store your inventoried items in more than one location, use the Location Information window to add additional locations to store your inventoried items. Also use the window to edit and delete locations you've created for your inventoried items.

Editing location information

You might want to edit the location to indicate that a location contains items that shouldn't be entered on a sale. To do this, mark the option Items cannot be sold or shipped from this location. When you mark this option, the location won't appear on Select from Lists for sales. You might want to use this option if you have a repair location, for example. You'll want to move items into the repair location, but you don't want to sell from there. Unmark the option, to enable selling of items from the location.

Deleting locations

If you have a location, other than the primary location, that has no items on hand and hasn't been assigned to any sales and purchases, you can quickly remove its record from the MYOB system.

Note:  Under certain circumstances, you can't delete a location

If you can't delete a location, you might want to inactivate it. When you inactivate a location, the location is removed from selection lists.

Activating or inactivating locations

You might want to edit the location to make a location inactive. If you mark the Inactive Location option, the location is removed from Select from Lists for both sales and purchases.

If a location is marked inactive, however, you may still use the location in transactions by manually entering the location. Inactive locations will still appear in the Locations List window. You can also return the status of the location to active so that it will appear again in the selection windows. No matter what the status of an location - active or inactive -- transactions recorded using the location will still affect all of your financial records.
