Maintenance

Backing up company files

The data you enter in the MYOB system is stored in a company file. Backing up (creating a copy of your company file that can be used in the event the company file becomes damaged or something happens to your computer) should be part of your everyday routine. MYOB AccountEdge provides a backup utility to make this important task quick and easy.

Restoring company files

If a problem makes your company file unusable, use the restore utility provided with AccountEdge to restore (uncompress) the most recent backup of your company file.

Verifying company files

You should routinely verify your company file to ensure that it is free of minor problems that could eventually grow in size and render the company file unusable.

Optimizing company files

Optimize your company file to ensure that the file is working efficiently, to uncover minor and fixable problem, and to free up wasted hard disk space if you've deleted or purged many transactions recently.

Moving and renaming company files

This section provides important information if you wish to move a company file from one folder to another on your computer, or if you wish to change the name of your company file.

Purging information that's no longer needed

Purging removes detailed information about transactions (but not the effects of the transactions on your account balances) and business contacts that you no longer need and reduces the size of your company file.

Troubleshooting: alert and error messages

Explanations of many alert and error messages are based upon our experience in troubleshooting serious problems that may occur when you're using MYOB AccountEdge. If you encounter any alert messages while you're using MYOB AccountEdge, check this information before you call the MYOB AccountEdge technical support group; you may find the solution to your problem right here.
